Since 1974, Cara-Friend has been supporting empowering LGBTQIA+ people in Northern Ireland by:
- advancing the education of the general public in relation to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender issues, history, and culture
- promoting equality and diversity by the elimination of discrimination in relation to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people
- maintaining and managing an safe LGBTQIA+ space centre for use for activities and service users of Cara-Friend
- promoting or assisting the co-operation and networking between voluntary and community organisations and individuals engaged in programmes of public education designed to increase public understanding and awareness of lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender people.
