Shelter Campaign for Homeless People (NI) Limited

Shelter Northern Ireland was founded in 1980 and is a registered charity whose mission is to promote and facilitate the provision of sufficient, decent, and affordable homes to end long term homelessness and eliminate poor housing.

As well as our campaigning and lobbying work we have projects operating across Northern Ireland that work with young people, older people, people with disabilities and refugees/asylum seekers.

The projects are all focused on the prevention of homelessness and the relief of poverty, they deliver services that offer practical interventions and homelessness prevention solutions, including temporary fully equipped accommodation and support for up to 20 young people at any one time, a home improvement agency assisting around 600 older and disabled homeowners and private tenants each year who require major and minor adaptations that will enable them to remain in their own homes for as long as possible and we have recently launched a new project based in Lisburn to assist refugees and asylum seekers get help with housing options, benefits, employment and housing support.

As well as information, advice and housing related support we look for pots of funding to provide practical assistance such as food parcels, heat & electric vouchers, and move in packs for young people moving into our temporary accommodation. For our older & disabled beneficiaries, home safety and security equipment like handrails, grabrails, safety lights are essential.
