Construction consultancy firm Hood McGowan Kirk was appointed as the Integrated Consultancy Team on Phase 2 of The Gobbins, a world-famous cliff walk that takes visitors on a thrilling journey along rugged sea cliffs, suspension bridges, and tunnels carved into the rock face.
The team at HMK had committed to delivering a number of social value initiatives as part of their tender for the contract including Paid Employment opportunities for students and apprentices and the delivery of Environmental Initiatives.
As part of their social value delivery, the team attended the Brian Cox Science Festival at the Braid Ballymena on the 21st January 2025. They delivered the Big Bridge Workshop which is a 13m long and 3m high cable-stayed model bridge.
Hundreds of enthusiastic students built and tested their very own bridge and learned about careers in construction and engineering. The workshop reached 101 children from the following local schools and colleges.
HMK also sponsored a Star Prize Pupil award at Science Festival under the “Most Enthusiastic Participant: For active and energetic participation in every activity” with a pair of Apple AirPods.
