Profile: |
Waterside Women’s Centre was set up in 1994. The Centre is located in an area of high social and economic disadvantage in the Waterside area of Derry/Londonderry. We provide community based education and support for women to give them the confidence, skills and qualifications needed to achieve their full potential. We provide onsite childcare focused on the needs of the child. This enables women to participate in the programmes we offer. Overall we support women to pursue their own development and make decisions about their own lives. We empower women by providing education, training and information. We place the issue of gender equality on the agenda. These priorities have been selected to counteract the disempowerment and social exclusion faced by these women. We can offer them skills, training and educational opportunities in a relaxed and non-threatening environment where they can feel comfortable and at ease and which in turn helps to reduce the isolation and vulnerability facing many women living in the local area. |
