School Employer Connections (SEC) has provided work related learning opportunities for young people for 21 years linking over 1,000 Employers with all NI 193 Post-Primary Schools. The organisation’s core face-to-face and virtual programmes, Work Experience, Class Programme and Website Careers Hub are embedded and engrained in the world of education in schools and in the world of work with employers.SEC Programmes successfully continue to provide a key resource to support schools and employers in preparing young people for the world of work enabling them to make better informed career choices that will assist them, through employability, to live and sustain themselves independently and make a contribution to society.SEC’s purpose is to deliver successful meaningful engagements between students in post primary school and employers to enable students to develop knowledge, improve learning and allow them to gain a greater understanding of the world of work benefitting and assisting students to make better informed career choices. For over 21 years SEC as a regional Business Education Partnership have provided significant support to secondary schools and employers enabling the whole learning community to focus on equipping young people develop those all important employability and transferable skills alongside their academic work whilst maintaining the balance between studies and attaining new skills. SEC programmes aim to reduce inequalities in Northern Ireland and, to this end, our primary area of focus is, and will remain, the west of the region.  This is where the need for our services is greatest since this region is characterised by low levels of public and private investment, high unemployment and a fragmented economy, largely dependent on small or medium enterprises. SEC’s programmes also address issues affecting young people such as social inclusion, deprivation, exclusion, marginalisation offering hope and opportunity.  Our programmes provide experience of the world of work to motivate and inspiring young people to make real change in their own lives.
