SkillSET Pre-Employment Programme. This programme offers opportunities if you are seeking to gain employment for the first time or if you’re unable to continue working in your current job due to sight loss. Participants will work with both an Employment Advisor and an IT Advisor who will tailor their support around their individual needs. 1-1 pre-employment support focusing on assistance with CV development, job search, job application, CV development and interview preparation – interview techniques, mock interviews and disclosing a disability to employers. The IT Advisor provides 1-1 training on assistive technologies such as JAWS screen reader and ZoomText (magnification) as well as training on commonly used workplace applications such as the Microsoft Office Packages, to include Outlook, Excel etc. Participants can also be supported to take part in an OCN NI IT qualification increasing employability & confidence in the workplace. Job Retention Support – Support is funded through DfC and is available for people who have sight loss and are in employment. This support is very much tailored to what the person needs at that time and can be: Short term intervention / Long Term intervention available. If someone is struggling in work, we can provide ongoing support through our funded programme, Workable NI, to ensure the individual is not at risk of losing their job as a result of their sight loss.
