| Profile: |
Leafair Community Association is a community-led charity based in Derry, established in 1994 by local residents determined to improve community involvement and tackle issues linked to social housing and social exclusion. Initially run entirely by volunteers, many founding members remain actively involved today. The organisation works to empower local people by improving access to services, reducing isolation, promoting inclusion and encouraging community participation. Over the years, Leafair has grown from operating in a converted garage to developing major community facilities including a 3G pitch and Health and Wellbeing Village. Leafair delivers a wide range of programmes supporting vulnerable and isolated residents. Its 50+ Club provides meals and social opportunities for older people with health and mobility difficulties. Men’s and women’s groups offer wellbeing activities, training and personal development. Youth programmes support marginalised young people, including those excluded from school or involved in the justice system. Good Morning North West provides daily calls and welfare support to over 300 isolated older people across Derry and Strabane. Advice Services Skeoge offers independent welfare advice, while the Men’s Shed social enterprise supports mental health through practical community projects. Leafair is seeking funding to support essential operational costs, sustain and expand services, continue delivering positive long-term impact in the community. |
