• Ballymacash Sports Academy (BSA) was formed in 2017 by a group of like-minded individuals, all with a passion for football and community.
• We embraced the fact that developing sports in the community meant developing stronger communities.
• We work in partnership with other local organisations and plan for better facilities, multi-sports activities and become a truly accessible organisation for all.
• Ballymacash Sports Academy is a Community Benefit Society (NP 000442) with over 400 members who purchased “Community Shares” in the Society, raising over £140,000 of capital investment since its formation in 2017.
• As a Community Benefit Society any profits made must be reinvested back into the redevelopment of the facility. Our organisation is also a Registered Charity (NIC 107431)
• We are governed by a voluntary board of 9 experienced Directors with a range of professional skills from both the public and private sector.
• BSA is the first Co Operative and Social Enterprise of its kind in Northern Ireland, a Community Owned Sports, and Recreational Facility. Can be a model for many other communities to transform other disused sites into community owned assets.
• Currently 1800 users of facility per week
• Key partnerships with PSNI, PCSP, Live Life Wellbeing Group, Ballymacash Community Craft Group, PBNI, NIHE and Laurelhill Community College to run programs, share facilities and assist with meeting Section 75 needs within the community.
